CSA customers pick out their weekly vegetable shares at Obercreek Farm in Hughsonville.

All over the country, farmers are encouraging locals to sign up for
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) for the 2019 season. This
Friday, Feb. 22, marks CSA Day, a day set aside to promote small
farms and healthy eating practices.
âCSA is a subscription to a seasonâs worth of sustainable, locally grown produce that is distributed to members throughout the harvesting season,â explained a recent National CSA Day press release.
CSA is a win-win for everyone involved. The member can enjoy the quality of fresh fruits, vegetables and meats offered in âsharesâ each week on their kitchen table for an entire summer season. The local farmerâs livelihood is financially supported. The local community and the planet are being supported in the process through this seasonal commitment to small farms.

Pleasant Valleyâs long-serving and often-flooded Town Hall is about
to be replaced. Town Supervisor Mark Figliozzi and his staff are
hard at work preparing the new site for a late-spring opening.
Figliozzi said the site, the former Family Circle Plaza sitting a mile and a half east of the hamletâs center on Route 44, was recently acquired in negotiations that saw the final cost well below the original asking price and without the town incurring any additional debt.
City of Beacon Fire Chief Gary Van Voorhis offered two presentations
to the City Council at a recent meeting. The first was on staffing
in the fire department. The second concerned the firehouses.
âItâs heartbreaking to say close any fire station,â said the chief. His proposal, if he had to, is to close Beacon Engine, on East Main St.
âBefore we do anything, we need input âfrom career and volunteer firefighters, the chief said.
